family portrait photography in Oxfordshire
– natural & relaxed photoshoots

it's our thing ....

At More Than Images, portrait photography isn’t just something we offer - it’s what we love most - and gets us out of bed every day with a spring in our step!

We specialise in natural family photoshoots in Oxfordshire, both in our Wallingford studio and at beautiful outdoor locations across the countryside.

As experienced family portrait photographers with over 35 years of combined experience, we photograph individuals, families, children and pets in a way that feels natural, joyful and full of personality.

Whether you’re looking for a studio portrait session or an outdoor family photoshoot, our aim is simple: to create photographs that feel genuine and that become part of your family's story.

Relaxed family portrait photography

Our style is fun, energetic, and never forced. We understand the art of perfectly capturing a moment - a quick glance, a spontaneous laugh, a fleeting expression - and turning it into a portrait you’ll treasure for many years to come.

We've built a reputation for being especially good with children (even reluctant sitters) and for helping camera-shy adults feel completely at ease.

You don’t need to worry about how to pose or what to do: we guide you throughout your shoot so your photos look natural, not staged. Because let’s be honest - someone is always holding the camera at home and our job is to make sure everyone gets to be in the frame.

Studio or outdoor portrait photography in Oxfordshire

Our spacious Wallingford studio is perfect for family portrait sessions of all sizes, including large extended family groups of up to 20 people. With parking directly outside and buggy and wheelchair-friendly access, visiting our ground floor studio is simple and relaxed and we regularly welcome families from Wallingford, Oxford, Goring, Abingdon, Henley-on-Thames and across south Oxfordshire. Studio portrait sessions are popular all year round but especially good for:

  • newborn photography, when keeping your baby warm is important

  • multi-generational family portraits

  • pet portrait photography where a controlled environment would be best

  • winter months when weather can be unpredictable

Outdoor family photoshoots in Oxfordshire

Alternatively if you love a more natural feel you may prefer an outdoor family photoshoot with us. Whatever the time of year, we know all the best spots in the beautiful rural countryside around us in Wallingford, the Chilterns, and South Oxfordshire. We can also travel to your home, if preferred. Our seasonal family photoshoots in Oxfordshire are especially popular, making the most of natural light and beautiful changing landscapes.  Throughout the year we offer:

  • Snowdrop Mini Sessions – February

  • Bluebell Shoots – Mid April/early May

  • Buttercup Meadow Shoots – mid May

  • Summer Meadow Sessions – June & July

  • Late Summer Grasses – August & September

  • Autumn Leaves – October to early November

  • STUDIO SESSIONS AVAILABLE ALL YEAR and can be booked as one of your portrait sessions within our ON LOCATION portrait plan, if wished.

Pet portrait photography

Pets are part of the family – and we absolutely love photographing them.

Over the years we’ve created portraits of dogs, cats, chickens, pigs, horses, and many other wonderful characters. You can choose between:

  • A playful outdoor pet photoshoot in the Oxfordshire countryside

  • A classic pet portrait in our Wallingford studio

We work patiently and safely with animals to capture their personality at its very best. If your four-legged (or feathered!) friend is an important part of your life, our Pet Portrait is designed especially for you. We can include multiple pets in one session, so there’s no need to book separate shoots.

Our portraits are made to be enjoyed, not left on a screen

We truly believe your photographs should live on your walls, not just on a phone. That's why we offer a range of beautiful print and framing options, from artisan prints to handmade frames and albums. We’ll help you choose the perfect way to display your images during your viewing, there's no pressure, just expert advice should you like it.

Give the gift of photography voucher

All our portrait plans can be purchased as Gift Vouchers making them a thoughtful present for birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, or simply capturing a moment in time. If you have any questions, we’re always happy to chat and help decide which plan would suit you best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should we wear for a family photoshoot?
A: We’ll guide you on colours and outfit choices that photograph beautifully, whether your session is in our studio or outdoors in Oxfordshire. The goal is for everyone to feel comfortable and look like themselves. However, it is worth taking time to plan outfits and we can advice on this if you're unsure. In general, avoiding clothes with very obvious labels and any bold patterns is a good rule of thumb.

Q: I hate having my photo taken - can we still book a session?

A: Absolutely and you’re definitely not alone! Many adults feel nervous about being photographed, especially if they’re usually the one behind the camera.

The good news is that you don’t need to worry about posing or knowing what to do. Our sessions are relaxed and informal, and we’ll guide you throughout so everything feels natural.

Some of our favourite portraits come from people who told us at the start that they “hate having their photo taken”. By the end of the session they’re usually surprised at how easy and enjoyable it felt. Our aim is always to create natural family portraits that feel like you, even if you normally feel camera shy.

Q: My children won’t sit still — will that be a problem for my family photoshoot?
A: Not at all! We specialise in relaxed family portrait photography and know how to work with energetic toddlers and shy children. Some of the best moments happen in between the “posed” shots.

Q: Can we include grandparents or extended family?
A: Yes — our Wallingford studio in Ayres House Studios can accommodate larger groups - up to 20 - and we really adore photographing multi-generational family portraits.

Q: Can we bring our dog to our photoshoot?
A: Absolutely! We’re very used to photographing pets and love including dogs as part of the family.

Q: Where do your outdoor family photoshoots take place in Oxfordshire?
A: We use a variety of beautiful countryside locations around Wallingford, the Chiltern Hills and South Oxfordshire, choosing the perfect setting depending on the season and your family.

Q: Can I give one of my portrait sessions to a family member or friend?
A: Yes - if you’re unable to use one of your sessions, you’re welcome to pass it on to a family member or close friend. Our portrait plans are designed to be used over 12–18 months, but we know sometimes life gets busy. Allowing someone else to enjoy one of the sessions means the plan can still be used and gives another family the chance to experience a portrait shoot with us.

The gifted session works in exactly the same way as your own: it includes the portrait sitting and the complimentary print, with the option to purchase additional images if they wish. If you’d like to transfer a session, just let us know and we’ll be happy to help arrange it.

Q: How do we book a portrait session?
A: Just get in touch - via phone 01491 826752, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we can help you decide whether a studio or outdoor would be best and find a date that works.
