Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should we wear for a family photoshoot?
A: We’ll guide you on colours and outfit choices that photograph beautifully, whether your session is in our studio or outdoors in Oxfordshire. The goal is for everyone to feel comfortable and look like themselves. However, it is worth taking time to plan outfits and we can advice on this if you're unsure. In general, avoiding clothes with very obvious labels and any bold patterns is a good rule of thumb.
Q: I hate having my photo taken - can we still book a session?
A: Absolutely and you’re definitely not alone! Many adults feel nervous about being photographed, especially if they’re usually the one behind the camera.
The good news is that you don’t need to worry about posing or knowing what to do. Our sessions are relaxed and informal, and we’ll guide you throughout so everything feels natural.
Some of our favourite portraits come from people who told us at the start that they “hate having their photo taken”. By the end of the session they’re usually surprised at how easy and enjoyable it felt. Our aim is always to create natural family portraits that feel like you, even if you normally feel camera shy.
Q: My children won’t sit still — will that be a problem for my family photoshoot?
A: Not at all! We specialise in relaxed family portrait photography and know how to work with energetic toddlers and shy children. Some of the best moments happen in between the “posed” shots.
Q: Can we include grandparents or extended family?
A: Yes — our Wallingford studio in Ayres House Studios can accommodate larger groups - up to 20 - and we really adore photographing multi-generational family portraits.
Q: Can we bring our dog to our photoshoot?
A: Absolutely! We’re very used to photographing pets and love including dogs as part of the family.
Q: Where do your outdoor family photoshoots take place in Oxfordshire?
A: We use a variety of beautiful countryside locations around Wallingford, the Chiltern Hills and South Oxfordshire, choosing the perfect setting depending on the season and your family.
Q: Can I give one of my portrait sessions to a family member or friend?
A: Yes - if you’re unable to use one of your sessions, you’re welcome to pass it on to a family member or close friend. Our portrait plans are designed to be used over 12–18 months, but we know sometimes life gets busy. Allowing someone else to enjoy one of the sessions means the plan can still be used and gives another family the chance to experience a portrait shoot with us.
The gifted session works in exactly the same way as your own: it includes the portrait sitting and the complimentary print, with the option to purchase additional images if they wish. If you’d like to transfer a session, just let us know and we’ll be happy to help arrange it.
